Snowtarded

One of the many things I hate about living in the DC area is that no one knows how to drive in the snow. And I can’t figure it out. I mean, this area gets snow every year. Maybe not as much as New England, but white fluffy stuff covers the ground at least once every winter. And people freak out about it every single year. We got about 5 inches of snow last night and people were acting like it was the blizzard of the century. On the always annoying commute home, I got stuck behind a douche bag in a V8 Cadillac that was obviously snow-retarded. Every time he had to start moving again he’d slam on the gas sending his tires spinning. He would also jerk his wheel all the way to the left and then all the way to the right instead of just keeping his tires straight and would end up fish-tailing. Every time. Even if you don’t know how to drive in the snow, wouldn’t you realize after one or two starts that gunning the engine while steering erratically isn’t the most effective way to navigate traffic in the snow?

So true. Chicago people are experts at snow driving, and just driving in general. When I'm in the burbs it's like Driving Miss Daisy.

Gunning the engine while steering erratically sounds like a lot of fun, though, you have to admit.

Here in PDX we avoid the whole snow-traffic thing by closing the city down when there's more than an inch of snow. We can get away with it because it only happens once every five or six years.

i disagree about chicago people being good at driving in snow. i got stuck in kankakee one night and drove back to milwaukee in a blizzard through chicago. i couldn't believe that SNOW PLOWS were getting stuck in the snow! nevermind the cars who all swerved off the freeway cause they were going too fast. when you see 6 ton dump trucks with a bed full of salt getting stuck in the snow, you know they can't be *that* good at driving in it.
